Buyable Pins and the Pinterest Shop Come to Pinterest App on Android
The Pinterest app on Android is receiving an update this week that introduces Buyable Pins, a feature that arrived on iOS over the summer that allows you to quickly buy the items “you love right in the Pinterest app.” The idea here is that when you find products you want on Pinterest, you shouldn’t have to leave the Pinterest app to get them.
With Buyable Pins, you’ll find some 60 million items that can be bought right from the Pinterest app. They show as blue buttons and make it clear whether or not you can buy an item and at what price. The checkout process happens within the app through a couple of taps, all of which is secure. Companies like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Neiman Marcus are already on board, along with “thousands” more through platforms like Shopify and Demandware. (more…)

Pushbullet Gets Updated for Marshmallow With Direct Share and Runtime Permissions Support
Pushbullet, a multi-platform device-to-device sharing app we use numerous times throughout the day, is receiving an update today that gets it all sorts of cozy with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and its new features. The update introduces support for runtime permissions and Direct Share, so you not only get to specify to Pushbullet which permissions of your device that it can access, you can also now share even quicker.
With runtime permissions, Pushbullet will now ask for your permission to do things like view your SMS messages, contacts, phone, and storage. Pushbullet is actually asking during the setup process, for access to these permissions, so you can allow or deny upfront. (more…)

Inbox’s New “Smart Reply” Feature Helps You Respond to Emails Faster
Through an update rolling out to Google’s Inbox later this week, Google is introducing a new feature called Smart Reply. As the name sort of suggests, Google thinks that it has cracked some form of machine learning voodoo, which has enabled it to offer you short, quick responses to emails that could potentially save you a lot of time and typing. Think of how keyboards, like Google’s or Swiftkey, predict the next word you are typing or are about to type. Google now wants to do that on a grander scale, that scale being email. (more…)
