    Nova Launcher Beta Update Adds Gestures for Double-Tap-to-Lock, Google Now, More

    Nova Launcher beta just received a fantastic update that adds a bunch of new features that a number of you have likely been hoping would arrive one day. We’re talking about double-tap-to-lock, a gesture option for opening Google Now, options to make the app drawer just like Google’s latest vertical app drawer (with recent apps and persistent search), and more.

    The update also attempts to fix the slow Marshmallow notification pulldown, though it does require root. A bunch of bugs have been squashed as well, plus optimized an startup time and fast scrolling in long lists were added.  (more…)

    Google’s Contacts and Phone Apps Arrive on Google Play (Updated)

    Update 12/7:  They are back again! (Still only for Nexus phones, though.)


    This morning, Google pushed two apps to Google Play for the first time, Contacts and Phone (or Dialer, depending on Google’s mood). The arrival of each shouldn’t surprise you, though I am a bit surprised it took this long for Google to do this, since they started decoupling their stock apps from Android long ago.  (more…)

    Last night, LinkedIn revealed its new apps for Android and iOS that are “more intuitive, smarter and dramatically simplifies your LinkedIn experience.” In other words, they are modern apps that will hopefully negate Android developers from taking to their Google Play reviews with things like, “Hire some better Android developers.”

    T-Mobile Adds 11 More Services to Music Freedom Lineup

    This afternoon, T-Mobile announced 11 new music streaming services that will be included in Music Freedom, the feature that grants Simple Choice customers the ability to stream music from various services, with all of the data not counting towards your monthly total. For those who enjoy rocking out all month long, it’s a big deal.

    While Music Freedom already covers most of the major services available, including Play Music, Spotify, and Pandora, T-Mobile continues to add new services, making the feature that much better. Newly added music services include Aud.io, Dash Radio, SomaFM, StreamOn, TuneIn Premium, and many more. All of these services will now be able to be streamed at no data charge to you.

    Google Lets You Organize Photos You Find in Google Image Search, and It’s Awesome

    When I want to search for a picture of something, I go directly to Google, search for it, and then tap on the “Images” tab. It’s the best way to find an image because it uses Google’s search powers, but it also presents dozens and dozens of images in an easy-to-view way. So when Google announced yesterday that it was adding a “Saved Images” feature to mobile searches, along with a way to organize them, I about popped some champagne.  (more…)
